(Im)perfection
Imperfection is an anthology of female's thoughts and feeling towards their body image. In our times , many females have been told to act and look a certain way to be "perfect", causing them to hide away their "imperfections" that are deem to be ugly and unacceptable. Therefore inspiring me to work on this publication to bring awareness and achieve the opposite of this issue.
Instead of hiding these "imperfections" away , they are amplified in this publication through typography and photography. And having multiple ethnicity of females taking part of this publication , I realized that ethnicity and age could affect the female standards towards their own body.However, it still does not change the fact that these societies standards have impacted the confidence of many young female adults.
Paper questionnaires were given out to young female adults around campus. A photography session was arranged and taken based on the responses of the questionnaires that were provided by the participants. Many of these photos were taken in the comforts of the participants bedroom and tapes were used in every shot as a form of restriction and tightness. Resembling how suffocating it is to fit into mainstream media beauty standards. The use of yellow and black coloured tapes exhibits attention and also brings awareness. However, the publication wishes to act as a form of empowerment to many females. As every body type is beautiful on its own.
